The Black Castle is the historic home of Lady Thurles. Situated in Liberty Square, it is another addition to the many historic places that are in Thurles, the town that is shrouded in history. The Historic Black Castle, in an prime location on Liberty Square, Thurles, County Tipperary, dates from the 16th Century and was home to Lady Thurles ( Elizabeth Poyntz) in the 1660s and 1670s.
She had been married to Thomas Butler of the house of Ormonde. She died in 1673 and is buried in the Ladyes Chapple in St Mary’s, Thurles.
She is the common ancestress, through her Butler Children, of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.
Equally, through her Mathew children, ( second Marriage) where Nano Nagle, founder of the Presentation Order, is a direct descendant.
A most exciting and rewarding project, sure to attract significant interest on the open market.
