Day care in the community for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
The Day Care Service is available between 10.00am and 4.00pm every Tuesday and Thursday.
Attendance at the day care sessions should ideally be booked in advance. Clients usually attend for a full day but flexibility is part of our culture and we can accommodate most people’s needs time-wise.
Attendance is paid for privately at an agreed cost. This is a ‘not for profit’ service with a large voluntary input. Fundraising efforts include a Furniture charity Shop, The Mall, Thurles.
The daily fee covers dinner and snacks (morning and afternoon). We are happy to discuss your individual dietary requirements as necessary. Hairdressing is available on Tuesdays.

Dementia Day Care
Quality Care with a personal and creative touch
We are a service of Thurles Community Social Services.
The Service
The day care service operates from the Tipperary Centre for Independent Living (TCIL) in Thurles, for the benefit of people living with dementia and their families and carers.
It will provide personalised support in a safe, secure and stimulating environment.
We are committed to providing a high quality service with expert, experienced staff. All staff go through a thorough recruitment process including references and Garda Vetting. They are trained to support people with dementia as well as understanding the needs of the family members and carers, who will also be offered confidential guidance and support.
Personalised Support
C.A.M.E.O. Care is operated by the Thurles Dementia Support Project, a social enterprise which provides quality care and support services to people with dementia.
The centre is managed by a Registered Nurse with many years’ experience working with older people, with and without dementia.
Best management and leadership skills are used to ensure the provision of an excellent service.
We want each person to enjoy their time at the centre, which provides a safe and supportive environment to meet and make new friends.
We get to know our clients and then use creative approaches in our care for the person with dementia as is appropriate for everyone.
Activities
Clients are encouraged to choose from a variety of stimulating and creative activities on offer, including gentle exercise, music and dance, arts and crafts, quizzes, board games, baking reminiscence and they can also attend different social events. Outside, our clients can enjoy going for a walk with a member of staff or take part in a trip to the local shops.
We have a safe outdoor garden space to the rear of TCIL and organise appropriate gardening activities.
